We had a great time at the Johnson Bayou and Hackbery libraries Feb. 24, 2014. Debra Ramirez, Mary Ellender, and Janice Crador, three of the women featured in the book, talked about their experiences in the environmental movement. A great and interesting group of women in attendance. It was so much fun, and thank you for inviting us to talk to your book club.
Thanks to Jo Dee Roberts, Grand Lake Library, Janice Crador, Mary Ellender and all the people who attended the book signing. I enjoyed listening to the stories of the people in Grand Lake.
The LA Book Festival held in Baton Rouge on November 1-2, 2013 was great. The party for the authors on Friday evening was so much fun because I got to meet several very interesting authors: Jay R. Mayhall, Jr. author of “Judas the Apostle,” Angela Carl, “Where Writers Wrote in New Orleans,” and Rheta Grimsley Johnson and Wendy Reed, “Circling Faith.”
Our panel presentation on Saturday also went very well. Overall, it was a great experience.
We will be giving a book presentation at the Book Festival Saturday November 2, 2013, at the State Capitol, in the House Committee Room (4) from 12:15 PM to 1 PM. Following that we will be in the Barnes & Noble Book Selling & Signing Tent from 1:15 PM to 2:00 PM. Hope to see you there.
The panel discussion and book signing in Lafayette, LA at the Dupre’ Library, University of Lafayette on Oct. 17, 2013, was a great event. Women who served on the panel and featured in the book, Clara Baudoin, Flo Gossien, Wilma Subra, Sister Helen Vinton, and Lorna Bourg talked about their environmental journeys. All of the women reside in Acadiana. Subra and Bourg are both MacAthur Genius award winners. People attending, and especially the college students, asked very informed questions. A special thanks to Dr. Bruce Turner, Assistant Dean of Special Collection Services and Susan Tucker, moderator for the event, Curator of Books and Records, with the Vorhoff Library, Tulane University, New Orleans.
Our dear friend Marylee Orr, Executive Director of Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN), sent along this lovely photo and description of a great group.
It was such a wonderful event.
What a great group of women who have done extraordinary things.
I was proud, proud to be with them.
Former Governor Roemer gave all the ladies their certificates.
They were thrilled with that!
Attached is a picture of almost all the honorees.
The party honoring the women featured in the book and hosted by La Environmental Action Network (LEAN)on Friday Oct. 11, 2013 was awesome. Thanks to Marylee, Michael, Paul, and staff Josie and Susie for throwing a GREAT PARTY at the Baton Rouge Art Gallery.
A special thanks also to former governor Buddy Roemer who handed out the awards to the women.
Approximately 125 people were in attendance. Twenty-four women who are featured in the book attended the event, and four women who are now deceased had family members at the event who accepted their award. Jessie Price’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were in attendance to accept her award. Shirley Goldsmith’s daughter Leslie flew in from Dallas. Mary Brasseaux’s husband Ervin and daughter Lorna were also in attendance. And two of Mary McCastle’s children accepted her award.
Thanks to Marylee for making this event happen.
